Equipment is part of the problem, too. I was using a very reluctant, cantancerous, recalcitrant and unpleasant generator (which finally ran out of fuel and quit backfiring) and a 14" electric chain saw which was not really perfect for a branch of that size.
And once cut down, they have to be cut up. Funny language, English. I can still barely move.
That is because it was a 2 man job Fin....An extra set of hands would have sped up the process. Perhaps you would have found 5-6 more chores to do resulting in the same feeling so still back to square one. Even I feel the effects of chores now.

I'd agree that a 14 inch chain saw for a limb that thick is probably not quite enough. Bobby also makes a good point.
Yup. I agree ~ sounds like ole "arthur" is visiting you. That sure looks like a job for two people! Be careful~
