WOW...or Ouch....or the A Word

This is frankly, please forgive the term, awesome. [owww]

This little box contains virtually an entire human life.

Over fifty years of daily writing.

Favorite music spanning five centuries. Maybe more, as I don’t know what century the Gregorian chants date from.

Over thirty thousand photographs spanning four centuries.

Little color sound movies, lasting from a few seconds to ten minutes, from a dog chasing a ball to airliners landing (barely) in a 40 knot crosswind in Germany.

And all of this used less than 15% of the available space.

In its former form, it occupied at least three large rooms.

Yup…awesome.

Blue Angels-then

This shows the APU which they used to start their planes. I got a kick out of how it was painted and numbered to match the planes. It looks like a vacuum cleaner on steroids.

Fat Albert's predecesor.

This show was at the Monterey Naval Air Station in California in 1964.

Audience

Went to commit aviation, finally, as the temps were upper 40s
(although forecast to low teens tonight) and it had been awhile
since I had flown.

Winds: from the SSW (210 degrees) at 14 MPH (12 knots; 6.2 m/s)
gusting to 23 MPH (20 knots; 10.4 m/s)

Accordingly, there were not a lot of planes flying. But I still
felt the need to do some nice landings, as there were 12 bright
eyes watching me.

Technology that makes me Smile

As it is Valentine’s Day, and since I am a long way away from where my
heart is, I went looking for an e card that would make us feel a little closer.

In a radical departure from my norm, I did NOT pick the very first one I saw,
even though it was a cute little bunny etc, but looked a bit further and finally
found one that I thought expressed my own feelings pretty accurately.

The substances was that you are the one and only and my life revolves around only
You, without whom I should most certainly be desole.

Fine. All well and good, so I added a note, saying that it certainly expressed my own feelings of love and togetherness and oneness well.

The guffaw came when I scrolled down another inch on the page to be faced with the note

“You can send the identical card to up to 100 friends”

Sorry. Not at my age! Five or ten is more than enough.

Just kidding BG. You are IT! Happy V Day.

Snow

DId I read somewhere that the eskimos have 14 different words for snow?

Working in my driveway this morning, I think I had more than that!

OK - I Have Been Kinda Worrying

...about spending a good more time than intended in the city of Brotherly Love manana. It is not way up on my list of places I want to be stuck involuntarily.

So, when I called the airline to reconfirm the three flights scheduled for tomorrow, and the machine kicked out my automated reconfirmation due to an ongoing systems limitation in their computer, I was not altogether surprised when the bubbly lady in Phoenix said........ummmm......uhhh.......ooookkkkk......are you flexible?

Well, I am to a degree, in terms of when I must fly, although I cannot bring my leg up over my shoulder from behind. [Never could, actually.]

The upshot is that I will not be stuck either in Philly nor the Tarheel State au demain.

I am now going to take Copper for a walk.

In shorts. {Me, not he]

It is 65 degrees here.

Meanwhile, in another time zone....

Going Home --------- Or NOT

As I said in a comment recently, I have now achieved a mental state in which I feel like I am going home, whether I am northbound or opposite. The sad converse of this is that I am also leaving home each time I make the trip. And it is always a rather intense emotional experience.

Several additional factors are influencing my mood today. My almost-brand-new dell laptop has eaten its insides, fortunately well within the fix-in-the-home warranty period, but still leaving an internet addict feeling like an alcoholic in the drunk tank. The good news---really really good news is that the hard drive with hundreds of hours of work on it, (some but not all backed up, at least until the frantic efforts when the dead dell returned briefly to life again) seems intact and working well. The tech who was supposed to call yesterday for an appointment was not able to do so because of a huge AT&T outage which affected a wide area (land lines included) and also knocked out internet for the backup laptop).

Next, after only one night of aloneness, the thought of a series of them back to back is certainly unwelcome. Furthermore, the severe winter on LI has had its effect on my poor empty house and I face at least two problems upon my return in a few days. I am very grateful meanwhile to my conscientious neighbor who has been so diligent in looking after the place, and keeping me abreast of the developments there so that I am not blindsided by them upon my return.

This is a photo of what awaits me.
